If it bothers you when a writer heavily borrows from another writer, then this is the wrong book for you. Feist takes whole races from Tolkien (elves, dwarves, goblins). Beyond that, he borrows a lot more from Tolkien, such as places (though he changes the names) and even elvish linguistics seem Tolkienesque. However, this is a story that will keep you reading. Feist does an excellent job of story telling, and that is really what fantasy literature is about.
