God's Demon
Barlowe builds on the work of Dante and Milton and tells a great, if not theologically correct, story. He emphasizes that the main torment of Hell is not the fire, the constant torture, but rather the separation from God. The main character comes to the conclusion that he would do anything "if only to look upon His Face again for an instant."
